Mogadishu (HOL) — A landmine explosion in Mogadishu’s Heliwa district on Saturday killed at least one civilian and wounded two government soldiers, officials and witnesses said.
The blast occurred near a checkpoint in the Suqa Xoolaha neighborhood and appeared to target soldiers passing through the area, according to residents.
Security forces responded to the attack by conducting a brief operation and closing the road linking Soos and Suqa Xoolaha for about an hour before reopening it to traffic.
Authorities have not yet commented on the incident, and no group has claimed responsibility.
The explosion follows a similar attack last week in Jabad Geelle, an area on the outskirts of Mogadishu under the Elasha Biyaha basin.
