Iraq: UAE’s Masdar plans to build solar power facility
Iraq advances renewable goals with 7.5 GW solar contracts and funding for four key projects, targeting one-third renewable electricity by 2025.
UAE-based company, Masdar (Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company), is planning to build a solar power facility in Iraq. The initial phase of the solar power plant aims for an output capacity of 1,000 megawatts (MW).
Ali Fadil, Iraq’s Minister of Electricity, discussed with Masdar representatives in Baghdad the project’s progress and development. The specific location and cost of the project were not disclosed during the meeting. Approval from the Iraqi cabinet is also still pending for the project.
